Many of you have already done an amazing job circulating the video I sent around
and now I need your help and kindness again.
The link below leads to my sponsorship page for the BIG bike ride that I am undertaking this December, and I would be so grateful for anything you can donate towards it.
To make giving easier and more tax efficient for Brits I had hoped you would be able to donate in sterling to a registered UK charity. Unfortunately it has been impossible to achieve this but please don’t be put off! The site above allows you to use Visa, Mastercard or Amex. The amounts provided are in Australian dollars: $30, $50, $100, $150 equates to £19, £31, £62, £100 and so on.
I really want to emphasis that every penny/cent/dime you give goes to the Somaly Mam Foundation and its rescue and rehabilitation programmes.
We cover the cost of travel, accommodation, etc. ourselves and cannot participate in the cycle without raising a minimum of (AU)$7000/(GB)£4,500 each.
Cycling 70km a day for two weeks, up and down Cambodia and Laos, visiting shelters and meeting survivors will certainly be a great test for both the body and soul! But it is all part of my new year’s resolution to ‘live deliberately’, as said by another abolitionist, Henry David Thoreau.
Devastatingly, living deliberately is a not a possibility for the 27 million slaves still in the world today. They do not have the freedom of their body, let alone their future. But we can change that.
It’s my 21st birthday today and instead of throwing a huge, extravagant party and getting lots of lovely but unnecessary gifts, I would love it if we could redirect the money to making a very necessary difference to these individuals’ lives.
Up until the trip in seven months time I am planning to organise fundraising events in England and Sydney so will keep you posted on the details and hope to see you there.
Thank you for all your support.
Much love and gratitude,
